Veteran female Malawian musician Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma has been listed by Musicians Association of Malawi (MAM) women’s desk as one of the artists to be awarded for hercontributions to music in the country.
The award will be presented during a fundraising dinner dance at at Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe on Friday night.
Apart from Chidzanja Nkhoma, MAM will also award gospel singer Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Eliza Kachali Kaunda, Chimwemwe Mizaya and Catherine Kayange.
The fundraising dinner and dance where former Big Brother Africa Malawi representative Natasha Ann Tonthola will be the director of ceremonies, there will also be performances from top musicians such as Lucius Banda, Vitta Chirwa and Kalimba Band, Chimwemwe Mhango, The Roots Band of the Bambo a Tereza fame.
Others to perform will be Sally Nyundo, Favoured Martha, Maggie Mangani, Hellen Daka Maulidi and rudo Chakwera.
Kamwendo Banda and Kachali Kaunda will also perform.
MAM women’s desk welfare chairperson Harriet Msungama said the five to be awarded “have done a lot in the promotion of Malawi music and are still active years down the line.”
During the event, they would also remember some of the departed musicians.
The dinner and dance expects to raise a targeted K8.5 million for the smooth running of the women’s desk activities.
