MCP deny sealing political alliance with UTM
Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM have flatly denied reports of any political alliances between them and described the weeklong reports in various social media platforms as mere social media talk.
Some people have printed materials advocating for an alliance of the two parties.
The materials which Nyasa Times has seen are t-shirts, caps and placards written “my dream team, the only hope for Malawi” especially the t-shirts.
MCP publicity secretary Maurice Munthali said the party has also seen the social media reports.
“Maybe they are from some overzealous supporters but the truth is there is no any agreement between us and UTM,” said Munthali.
Social media has been awash with reports and pictures of MCP president Lazarus Chakwera and UTM leader Saulos Chilima suggesting that in the event of a court sanctioned fresh elections, Chakwera will be the opposition torchbearer with Chilima as his presidential running mate.
Spokesperson for UTM Joseph Chidanti Malunga said there was no such arrangement on the table.
“I could have known if we had such an agreement. Take it as the usual social media talk,” he said.
Political commentator Victor Chipofya said it would be difficult for the two parties to have such an agreement.
“MCP is a very big party with a very strong and solid base in central region. The UTM has also proved to be yet another party with a solid and strong base among the youth. The party managed to pull one million votes for Chilima. It would be very difficult for two big parties to have such an agreement,” said Chipofya.
MCP went into alliances with Peoples Party and the less fancied Freedom Party of former vice president Khumbo Kachali in the run up to the May 21 polls.

Allowing Mutharika to contest or DPP to field a candidate in the re-run would be rewarding Mutharika and DPP for their criminal activities with their bedfellow MEC!!! Mutharika and DPP should be disqualified from taking part in the re-run especially when you consider the attempts at bribing judges and all that they have done!!!!!
The alliance is possible but not in the way people are putting it. The alliance will either be represented by Chakwera and Mia or Chilima and Usi.
The nullification if ever it happens will be on 21st May elections and not the February 2019 submission of presidential nomination papers.
We the DPP will block that move through the courts or demand that if that will be the case then even the registration and verification exercises be nullified too.

Nde odziwanu tiuzeni the cut off point of “fresh elections”? My understanding is if its fresh election it will include registration, verification, nominations and polling. Can all that happen within 60 days? I assume these 60 days are the official campaign period which comes after nominations period so how do you change the partnering?
UTM should refrain from getting into a political party with the Crocodile party. UTM has managed to prove that it really is a national party. In its leadership there are people from all over Malawi, it campaigned all over Malawi and got votes from all over Malawi. DPP should not be talking as if it has clean hands either. As a matter of fact DPP has killed and maimed more Malawians in the short stay in power than MCP!!! And it is also a fact Chasowa’s murder was ordered by none other than the Big-Kahuna Clue-less Mutharika who Chasowa had been conversing with on phone on couple occasions as revealed by the Commission of Inquiry Report!!!!
Son. clearly you were not born during MCP terror. MCP is officially said to have murdered in excess of 4000 people and jailed countless of people. People were fired for no reason. Northerners sent back to the north just because they were northerners, yet they founded the MCP. Jehovah’s witness were denied their right to worship. Bishops were stripped naked and arrested.
