Mutharika calls for stronger US investment as outgoing envoy takes leave

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has called for increased investment from the United States in key sectors of Malawi’s development agenda, saying stronger cooperation between the two countries would support progress in areas including agriculture, mining, education and health.

Mutharika used the meeting to press the case for deeper US engagement with Malawi’s economy

The president made the remarks on Friday at Kamuzu Palace, during a farewell audience with outgoing United States Chargé d’Affaires Jonathan Fischer.

Mutharika used the meeting to press the case for deeper US engagement with Malawi’s economy, framing increased American investment as central to advancing the country’s broader development priorities.

Fischer thanked the Malawi government for the hospitality extended to him during his tenure as he prepared to leave the country.

The meeting comes as Malawi continues to court foreign investment across several priority sectors, at a time when the country is also navigating shifting international aid commitments from other Western partners, including recent cuts to UK development assistance.
