‘Real deal’: Atupele, Chapola paraded in Lilongwe rural

UDF presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi on Sunday took his newly appointed running mate Dr  Godfrey Chapola to Lilongwe rural on a whistle stop tour and touted his partnering with the agriculturist as “ a real deal” ticket for the country’s presidency.

Atupele warned it will be suicidal for Malawians to vote back to power an administration which has failed to manage the public purse leading to untold suffering of ordinary Malawians.

His tour covered Ngwangwa Trading Centre, Ukwe Trading Centre and Malembo Primary School.

The UDF torchbearer  told the gathering s at all the venues that the UDF party has a clear plan on how it intends to bring transformation to the country after 50 years if slow progress.

He said these plans will be explained in detail when the party launches its manifesto.

“We have a plan of the country and we are going to explain to you how we are going to implement this blue print”. he said.

He added”we have developed a concerted plan which will address not only income poverty and economic shocks but also social vulnerability”.

However, he said the next UDF government will prioritise in fixing the economy because no tangible development can take place in the current state of the Malawi economy.

“It will not be business as usual as it is happening now”.

He emphasised that the next UDF administration will have to master the discipline of managing the public purse in a manner that will force it to spend on the right priorities.

“This means that we will reform our governance systems to ensure that those in leadership positions recognise that it is both their and ordinary Malawians interests not to abuse state resources and that doing so will attract punishment,” said Atupele.

He told the crowds that he had appointed Dr Chapola as his running mate for the May 20 elections not because of where he comes from [Lilongwe]  but that he believes he can deliver.

Atupele also took an opportunity to refute the propaganda which has gone viral on the social media that  Chapola is his uncle.

Business was a stand still all the way to the last venue which was Malembo primary school as thousands of people the young and the old chanted praise choruses for Atupele as he is likes to be called.

He was forced to address several unscheduled public rally on the way due to public demand.
Apparently the area he visited was home area of Malawi Congress Party Dr Lazarous Chakwera.

He told the jubilant gathering that after presentation of his nomination papers to the electoral commission he will mount a campaign never experienced in the political history in the country.

However he was quick to say that he will stick to issue based campaign saying Malawians deserve better than what they are experiencing.

On Tuesday the UDF leader will address public meetings at Kabudula Trading Centre and the same Malembo where he failed to address another rally due to darkness.
