SA detains 600 Malawians monthly for illegal stay

Government says over 600 Malawians are detained in South Africa and deported back to Malawi because they go to the Rainbow nation without proper travel documents and residence permits.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson John Kabaghe has confirmed this.
He said this was worrisome as many Malawians are in South African jails over the issue.
Kabaghe said 130 Malawians are in Mozambican jails because they were arrested for traveling without official documents.
Some people say they trek to South Africa to look for greener pastures and escape the rampant poverty in Malawi.
