In the ladies category, Dwangwa based Lusayo Sibale, handicap 36, took the home ground advantage to emerge ladies champion after posting 31 points. She was followed by fellow Dwangwa compatriot Chimwemwe Chavura, handicap 33, in second position with 30 points. Blantyre based Carol Banda Mukadam, handicap 21, was in third position with 27 points.

The longest drive accolade went to Cosmas Mweniwawo, while closest to the pin was won by Bregger Kaingwe. Carol Banda Mukadam won the closest to the pin in the ladies category.

A special Invited golfers’ prize was set aside whose champion was Semu Chaula with 31 points.

Saka attributed his success to practice and patience.

“The tournament was well organized and the greens were well prepared. Practice makes perfect and I have been practicing to improve my game and also changing courses helps to improve my game and I have been playing at different courses lately,” said Saka, captain of Limbe Country Club Golf Section.

Sibale said she was happy to win the tournament.

“There was no secret that I had but I just played hard to reduce my handicap. I am looking forward to play on other golf courses so that my game should keep on improving,” said Sibale.

Illovo Dwangwa General Manager Lal Bachan said he was impressed with the joint sponsored golf tournament.

“We thought of being in partnership with EthCO to sponsor this tournament because we are the two biggest businesses around here in Dwangwa and it was natural for us that we should give back to the people that provide us with services. We got the opportunity to meet and interact with people we do business with,” said Bachan.

EthCO Chief Executive Officer Lusubilo Chakaniza said the joint sponsored tournament showed that Illovo and EthCO are one family and do business together hence the tournament.

“We are impressed with the organization of this tournament, we invited golfers from elsewhere and the response was good. There has been a lot of balancing and synergies that we had to do and the committee made sure that both companies are well represented. This is how we should be doing things in future,” said Chakaniza.
