Tamanyawaka promises fireworks at homecoming concerts
Ivory Coast based Malawian reggae artist Tamanyawaka Chavula arrives in the country this Friday ahead of her scheduled ‘Homecoming Concerts’ in Blantyre and Lilongwe next weekend.
In Blantyre, Tamanyawaka is slated to perform at the Motel Paradise on Friday night, 1st March, before storming Lilongwe with her reggae vibes on the afternoon of Sunday, 3rd March, at M1 Centre Point.
“I’m very excited and happy to reconnect with the fans, who are also excited with my return,” expressed the female performer, who will be jamming with the Black Missionaries, Anthony Makondetsa, Khonzi Masimbe and Yanjanani Chumbu at both gigs.
She stated: “Throughout my absence they [fans] have always been in touch through social media [and] they should expect the best from me and my brothers. It will be fireworks from the whole Chileka crew.”
In an interview with Nyasa Times from Ivory Coast, the singer-songwriter, who last performed in Malawi in 2017, shared why the two gigs, put together by Black Missionaries, are dubbed “Tamanyawaka’s Homecoming Concerts”.
“It’s been sometime since I connected with my fans in Malawi in such a concert. I visited Malawi a number of times recently and had some performances with the Blacks and was part of Sand Festival and Lake of Stars in 2017, but this time I will have a range of performances around the country. So, it’s a connection with the people that I’m looking forward to,” explained Tamanyawaka.
“It is also a homecoming party with my brothers the Blacks from Chileka, after I found out my roots to be in Chileka where my father comes from. It’s a story worth celebrating knowing your roots,” added the musician who disclosed she grew up without knowing her father and only connected with her roots four years ago.
Tamanyawaka, who has been sharing the stage with Ma Blacks since 2011, has three albums to her credit titled Diso La Yehova, Ndadza ndi Nyimbo and Reggae InRiddims.
She is set to release her fourth album named Reggalized mid this year. Off the project, the artist has already released singles titled Kaya and Kuwala.
Kuwala is a track which is also on Austria’s reggae band, House of Riddim’s 2018 global project which features top Reggae artists from across the world singing in their native languages. Currently it has over 40 artists including Anthony B, Perfect Giddiman, Teecha Dee and Chuck Fenda, among others.
