TNM’s Head of Blantyre Region, David Nyirenda said the commissioning of a new tower at Kunenekude opens up the area to the world.

“For a long time, the Kunenekude has never had any network coverage. The few who had handsets could only use them when they travel to Mwanza Boma. As such the commissioning of the new sites reaffirms our quest to expand coverage to any critical geographical location in Malawi be it land or water and where our service adds value to life and TNM believes that this new tower will contribute towards easy and reliable access to communication,” Nyirenda said.

Nyirenda said TNM believes that access to quality network services in mobile communication is a catalyst to economic development in Malawi.

“For small business to thrive it needs a high quality and dependable mobile network complete with data capabilities and that is what we are offering through the additional sites. Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) will always need reliable network to communicate with buyers on their commodities,” he said.

Nyirenda also noted that as a highly agricultural area, the new network coverage would benefit farmers a lot through easy links with lucrative markets to ensure they get handsome returns for their sweat.

Mwanza Central parliamentarian Davis Katsonga commended TNM for the commissioning of the new site saying it will go a long way in easing communication in the area.

“People of Kunenekude have been crying for this project for a long time and today’s inugarion of this tower is a great milestone towards economic growth of this area as the community will be now able to connect to the world,” said Katsonga.

Katsonga said kunenekude being agricultural area with this new site, farmers will be able to find markets for their produce.

“This area is a food basket for Mwanza and Blantyre as such farmers were unable to communicate to buyers on time but the coming of TNM network here will help our farmers to link up with the buyers on time,” he said.

In his remarks Group Village headman Kunenekude urged his subjects to avoid vandalising the site equipment.

“This development belong to us as such TNM would love to see this to be here for a long period of time as such let’s thank the company by taking good care of this equipment,” he said.

Kunenekude is located about 20 Kilometres from Mwanza Boma.
