The AGM will also commemorate World Sports Journalism Day (WSJD), which falls on July 2 every year.

Speaking during cheque presentation in Blantyre TNM’s Senior Manager-Business Enterprise Limbani Nsapato said the support is an acknowledgement of the important role that the sports media fraternity plays.

“As a sporty brand, we understand the relevance and dedication of journalists in all media channels, and the role they play in developing different sports disciplines in the country and in making the game exciting,” Nsapato said

Nsapato noted that TNM enjoys a mutually beneficial association with sports journalists and that the support is a confirmation of the cordial working relationship.

“We would like to appreciate the support that TNM receives from the media. Since we launched elite football league in the country 10 years ago the media has been always with us. The same extends to other disciplines such as athletics, golf and cricket among others,” he said

Swam President Peter Kanjere hailed TNM for the support towards the celebrations

“We are very grateful for the support that TNM has rendered to Swam towards this big day. TNM has indeed proved that it is always with us. In this vein and we would like to request other companies and organisations to emulate TNM’s gesture by supporting this day,” said Kanjere

Kanjere said the World Sports Journalists Day is important as it helps sports media to reflect on profession and how it contributes to the development of sports.

“You cannot talk about sports development minus the media. This year, our mother body International Sports Press Association, headquartered in Switzerland, has set the theme for the celebrations as ‘Social Media must be harnessed and used well, not abused.”

The local activities will include Beach Soccer tournament, Beach Volleyball tournament, poetry sessions, live babd Performances, displays by Swam Members, donation of items to patients at Salima District Hospital by Swam and Recognition of some local sports achievers and sports journalists.
