Two police officers arrested in K1.7m robbery

Malawi Police in the central region tobacco growing district of Kasungu are keeping in custody two police officers and three civilians in connection to armed robbery involving K1.7 million.

Kasungu police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda confirmed the development.

The police spokesman identified the two police officers as Sub Inspector Peter Dickson Mkhutche and Constable Lameck Chilima.

Their accomplices are Joseph Gandifele 30, Mussa Asabi 31 and Samuel Phiri 34.

Kaunda said on 27 May this year at Chipanga in the district the suspects robbed Davie Phiri at gun point of a bag containing K1.7 million.

The money were tobacco sales for Umodzi Burley Club.

Kaunda said Davie Phiri reported the matter to police station where they instituted an investigation leading to the arrest of the suspects in Lilongwe.

”Police also recovered a gun, a Marcas Revolver and two live ammunition which we suspect was used during the robbery,” said Kaunda.

The five suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges of armed robbery.
