Uladi rebukes Chilima, confident of Mutharika’s win in 2019

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice-president for the Central Region, Uladi Mussa, has rebuked Vice-President Saulos Chilima over strong criticism of government  and  throwing  his hat into the ring for the 2019 presidential elections, going up against the incumbent, Peter Mutharika.

Speaking at  Kandulu School Ground in the area of Traditional Authority Ndindi in Salima during a political rally, the Salima South MP who recently joined DPP from the opposition People’s Party (PP) where he was acting president and a long time critic of Mutharika’s leadership, rebuked Chilima for, among others, criticising a government he is part of .

Said Mussa: “Chilima is  practicing opposition politics while serving in a government position as State vice president.”

Mussa said Chilima is “ungrateful”, saying he was handpicked by Mutharika to be the country’s second in command.

“Professor Mutharika could have picked anyone in DPP to be the running mate but instead he chose Chilima [from the private sector].

“In Malawi culture and indeed in African culture, mzako akati konzu iwe umati konzu [one good turn deserves the other],” said Mussa.

Chilima quit the ruling DPP citing unchecked corruption and nepotism. He launched United Transformation Movement (UTM) which has changed the political landscape ahead of May 21 2019 Tripartite elections.

But Mussa said that he’s confident that the DPP  will win the election with Mutharika getting his final mandatory five year term.

“We are confident that the people will vote for a government that has a track record of development and that is DPP led by Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika,” said Mussa.

He said UTM will be a distant fourth in the elections

“UTM is not a big party; there is no way the party can win in Malawi within its few months of existence. That cannot happen in this country. Chilima should have waited for APM [Arthur Peter Mutharika] to finish his 10 years before having a thought of contesting as a President,” said Mussa.

Mussa said DPP has vibrant structures in every district across the country and continues putting in place more structures to help it win the elections with a landslide.

UTM secretary general Patricia Kaliati said Mussa was entitled to his political opinion, but said Malawians are wiser enough to know that he is a ‘change goal’ politician.

Asked to comment on what Mussa said that Mutharika will win the elections, Kaliati said: “Wait until he changes goal again to hear what he will say after elections.”

University of Livingstonia political scientist George Phiri  has said no party has exclusive political appeal that can guarantee them autonomous wins next year, saying  “with the coming in of UTM, the political landscape has changed”  parties must consider electoral partnerships.

Analysts have argued that the coming in of UTM, has weakened both main opposituon Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and DPP, as most of those joining the movement are defecting from the two parties.

  5. Almost every meaniful Malawian is tired of Uladi Mussa stupid utterances that he makes time and agin. He is just an opportunist and useless policians. The only advantage that he has is that he comes from Salima South which is full of anthu osaphunzira. People in his constituency like handouts. So when Mussa gives them handouts they think that is development. There is literally nothing that Mussa can point as his development achievement since he became a member of parliamnet for this area.

  6. The Hon. Uladi Mussa’s statement illustrates much of what is wrong with politics in Malawi.

    ‘. . . the Salima south MP . . . rebuked Chalima for . . . criticizing a government he is part of.’

This is called ‘whistle-blowing’. Who is in a better position to know what is rotten in an organization than someone who is part of it?

‘In Malawi culture . . . one good turn deserves [an]other.’

In politics, this is called ‘cronyism’, and it is considered to be a vice, not a virtue. It is the basis of many corrupt practices.

    ‘. . . [T]he people will vote for a government that has a track record of development. . . .’

The only place where the ‘government has a track record of development’ is in the campaign rhetoric of the DPP. Over the past four years, the people of Malawi have seen no development in their lives. This has been a period of regression for everyone except those who have been able to take advantage of the opportunities presented by corruption.

    ‘. . . DPP has vibrant structures. . . .’

He is probably true if by ‘vibrant’ he means ‘shaky’. It certainly doesn’t have stable structures.

I must thank the Hon. Uladi Mussa for his honesty, however inadvertent it may have been.

  7. No matter wat pipo argue here, Chilima and UTM were called to destroy stubborn DPP so that MCP can go through…..There has been passionate MCP supporters just look at MEC data…you will see that central region has the highest……Only that analysts deliberately choose to ignore this…MCP is our next goverment……………

  8. Chenji golo you have no right, or powers to stop chilima or any Malawian who aspires to contest for the presidency in this country. Iwe amene, umaufuna upresident pokakamira u president kumene wathawa ku PP.

  9. Mr Uladi Mussa what you need to know is that Malawians have woken up, its a different electrorate now, you are stuck with the old way of doing things. We want issue based campaign, tell us what you have to offer or shut up

  10. I don’t understand this Uladi boy….Didn’t Bingu dump UDF? How many times has he dumped parties, and still counting? Uladi is a national shame!

  11. Precision analysis of political dynamicity coupled by projected voter popularity analysis, the following are the results of 2019 elections:

Presidential: UTM/Alliance partners then MCP then DPP
Parliamentary: MCP then UTM then DPP.

Write somewhere else in your diaries and compare with what will come out in May, 2019.

  12. When Uladi enmeshed in passport corruption he might be the “Change Goal” the round tag for Uladi is that he is a sleazebag. At no point has he ever inspired democratic principles in others except his “make hay while the sun shines” principle in which he has dismally failed to be on his own two feet. So he is always in search of a political godfather by employing his loud mouth his skull has nothing marketable. His equal in this is Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma. One has to appreciate Ntaba’s early swallow in the UTM valley with a clear intention to cushion his landing at UTM aerodrome. Chilima was systematically booted out by the owners of DPP who continuously reminded that he was an outsider therefore his space to exercise his political freedom was curtailed only to remain in perpetual gratitude to DPP for the vice presidency. Total servitude to a bunch of economic vampires on the high seas of corruption

  13. If you are confident that DPP is going to win then why are you vilifying Chilima…..is it really necessary. Making empty noises is a sign of panic and not a sign of confidence at all Uladi. Politics of vilification and character assassination is a sign of immaturity. That’s Trump-like politics.

  14. Mbuzi yayikulu pa Malawi ndi Uladi Mussa-no education, no wisdom, no love for his country, no compassion for others, no helpful ideas for his country, but changing parties for his own selfish gains. Can Malawi develop with such mentality? What positive things has Peter Mutharika done to the country for Uladi to sing songs of praise and clap hands of joy? Does he want everyone to be as foolish as he is? I wonder what kind of knowledge he pumped into students during his teaching days. This Uladi thing is a menace to democracy and progress like the party he is serving.

  15. Everything Uladi Mussa says is nonsense…nothing developmental..this is a guy an opportunist who keeps changing parties right infront of our eyes …let’s refuse this nonsesne..2019 let’s do away with these kind of politicians . This kind of politicians do not love this country. And they have no vision at all other than marrying more wife’s

  16. Chilima will stay on the learning curve for at least fifteen years. The problem is he way he started his party., demeaning the elders and too much reliance on the church. The church has got people with different political beliefs, including the clergy. Right now, Chiòima’s personal friend, Archbishop Msusa is in the cold. His colleagues have already proved him wrong.

      1. Mr. George Malema, what I mean is that baby Chilima has to learn politics for fifteen years before he dreams of winning any election. He did not take off well, in Malawi culture we respect elders. He is too naive. he thought all Catholics will join him in their multitude. His personal frien Msusa is receiving a backlash now because of similar thinking. Sorry, I was driving.May be you do not know the meaning staying in the learning curve, then go back to school kkkkkkk !!

    1. Which elders in politics? Are there elders in politics kkkkkkk very funny indeed. So what happened when Muluzi challenged Dr Banda? He simply won’t the elections & dethroned Dr Banda probably you were young you didn’t know. That is what is going to happen kkkkkkkkk.

  17. If DPP listened to what Chilima is saying, could it have been where it is now? Chenji golo is suggesting that when you are in government you should not oppose what your party is doing, you should just accept everything. That is why we are not developing because we have people like Uladi as leaders.

    1. I agree with you Agenda setting. Chilima is fighting the battle within and not outside, which is an effective way of fighting these pumbwas

  18. Uladi Mussa akuti ‘mzako akakuti konzu nawenso umati konzu’ thus DPP and thus why MK145m was deposited in DPP’s account hahah

  19. ADPP IMVANI IZI IFE OVOTA TINAKULEMBANI NTCHITO YOTI MUCHITE CHITUKUKO MUKACHEDWA NDIKUKANGANA BOMA TIPELEKA KWA WINA . UTM OR MCP . CHILIMAYO SAKULAKWITSA KUMAULURA AKUBAWO AYI .

    1. which thief has the chilima guy named so far? As far as i can recall, akungoti aulura and issuing stern warnings. I would take the VP more seriously, if by now, he could have named a couple of corrupt and thieving politicians in a name and shame fashion,,,,,

  20. Yes,you can critisize Chilima but we are confident in him. What he says happens. This time teachers have been empolyed ,secondary school fees are on hold.We know change goal,no principles ,opportunist. You damped PP now in DPP recycled politician who can not bring anything in Malawi apart from badmouthing.Kagwere uko iwe.Chilima yemweyo kuti wawa!Mukamalimbana ndi chilima mukumva kuwawa.Mukufuma akukhulukireni Passport gate eti.

  21. Is everyone in government corrupt? There are non-corrupt officers at immigration, Road Traffic, ESCOM but they are apart of the government too! Its bread and butter pal! Everyone needs his benefits at the end of the day thus your hard earned money!! If Dpp wins then I feel sorry for these poor supporters of yours cause they will be even more poorer but the choice is theirs at the end of the day cause in 2018 we can’t complain we dont have access to information despite MBC being bias! Good luck

  22. DPP will carry the day come 2019 elections. UTM has nothing to offer angoti mawa anena ichi mawa icho, Ukhanda Toto M’Malawi

  23. Uladi Mussa stop talking about Chilima. You are total disgrace, political prostitute of the highest land. You are just changing colours but your behaviour is still the same. Pure political shenanigans!!!!

  24. Honourable Uladi, may I remind you that Chilima has a right to contest as a presidential candidate irrespective of political affiliation. It just happens that he is now a torch bearer for UTM and is also the current VP. Its his moral choice to resign or not. Our constitution allows it (I urge you to please read the constitution bwana Uladi). If anything DPP should table an amendment to the constitution to allow a sitting president to fire his VP. Honourable Uladi, please think logically and not fire from the hip……you should know better bwana.

    1. Honestly if we have people who have thrown our country to the dogs the Uladi Mussa tops the list. Inu anthu a ku Salima South show him the exit door!!!!!

    2. Chilima must show that he has the moral character befitting a presidential candidate by resigning from his position as Vice President and concentrate on campaigning for presidency under UTM. He should not cling to the position under the guise of constitution’s silence on what to do when a Vice President rebels against his boss. As it is now, Chilima is a rebel. He has rebelled against his boss, APM, his party, DPP; and malawians. He needs serious soul searching.
