Mzuzu University student clinches Optometry award
A third year student at Mzuzu University has beaten 72 other students studying Optometry to clinch the 2015/16 best Optometry award and carting award MK50,000 courtesy of Mzuzu Optical and Eye Clinic.
Mzuzu Optical and Eye Clinic Executive Director Levie Msiska said the award, which set to run for more years to come, is meant to motivate students to work hard so that they become relevant and meet employers’ expectations.
“Apart from the award we also intend to take some of the students as interns at our clinic. Eventually we will be able to employ some of them,” Msiska said.
The winner. 23 year old Joseph Matola said he was excited with award saying he never expected it.
“This award is also a motivation to me and other students to keep working hard and aiming high,” he said.
Mzuzu Optical and Eye Clinic Board Chairperson Leaveson Thom said the study of Optometry is attracting many students since its establishment in 2008.
“So far we have 23 graduates working in government health establishments and we hope some will also join the private sector. That is why the coming of the private sector to motivate our students is exciting us,” Thom said.
