The son  died on Wednesday from Covid-19 and was laid to rest on Thursday in Lilongwe.

Chakwera, accompanied by First Lady Monica Chakwera, consoled the grieving family Banda, whose other son, Roy Kachale is a member of the Cabinet as Minister of Industry.

Malawi faces a resurgence of Covid-19 that is overwhelming the southern African nationa.

Chakwera, just six months in office, lost two Cabinet ministers to Covid-19 in January amid a surge that led him to declare a state of national disaster in all of Malawi’s 28 districts.

So far four members of parliament have succumbed to the virus.

A more contagious strain of the coronavirus first reported in South Africa has since been confirmed in Malawi.

  1. Inde mwachita bwino a Chakwera kukawaonekera mayi JB koma mukanayambira kwa mayi Mia. Mzimu wa Mia ukhala ukukusautsani posachedwapa. Munadya zambiri za Mia, plz think ahead before you act Mr. President.

  2. Kamuzu Academy (KA) and another international school in Blantyre are still operational despite the directive that all schools must be CLOSED. This is so because Chakwera’s Grand children learn at these international schools. What kind of leadership is this? Is this not promoting class division where the rich are allowed to progress and the poor are stopped from making progress? Malawians, for how long shall we just keep watching this nosense? Just open all schools Basi!!!! We too shall observe what KA is observing regarding covid.

  3. He must just step down uyu. Anatenganso tsoka lichita kuonekera posapita kukapepesa a Mai Mia ndi chifukwa Mulungu sanalore kuri akhale Chairman wa OAU. Koma anapupuluma kuxhita ku bwera nthawi ku RSA kuli lockdown. Ndipo since March kulibe president anapitako ku South Africa mpaka pano kupatula Siku Transipoti yu. Sadziwa mwambo ndi chikhalidwe chopepesa Maliro cha chi Malawi gule kwao achoke basi.

  4. This visit is a good gesture but it has raised a lot of questions & eyebrows.

The main one being will Abida Mia survive a reshuffle in the cabinet? Since all ties have been cut.

    Food for thought.

  5. Sidik Mia the chief financiaer of MCP at the time of campaign passes away. And here is this hypocrite Lazaraus fake pastor does not even go to condole Mrs Mia. User, abuser and discarder. Typical fake christian. No harm to the loss of Mrs Banda but why the favoritism. This man is not a man of god he is the agent of evil

  6. If he went and condoled the late Geoffrey Kachale’s wife we could have raised questions. But he went to condole the mother to the late that is quiet understood because the mother is not tested positive than the wife to the late who is likely to be positive because she was very close to the late husband. As is the case with Abida Mia even you guys yo can’t just rush to console the families due to this pandemic, and of late you will agree with me that Abida Mia has delegated the charity work her family is doing due to this pandemic after she is through with this period you will see the President condoling the Mia family. Safety is very important and the president’s visit involves a lot of people. So please reserve whatever comments you have until the scheduled time you will judge our president.

    1. Lack of information. When he tested positive he was in Lilongwe and was self isolating at the mothers house before going to Bingu when he got worse.

  7. It’s very surprising that a bwana has seen it appropriate to physically console JB family first and not Mia family. If it’s from an advice, it will be the worst I have ever heard of.

  8. Does the president have advisers? When I noted he didn’t go to see Mai Mia, I thought it was because Mai Mia was self isolating. Surely after self isolation the president could have gone to see Mai Mia or even see where Mia was laid to rest.
We all miss funerals but we make it a point to go and pay a visit to the grave.

  9. Since Joyce bandas son died of Covid i would want to believe the presidents health team did a thought research if Joyce banda was not in close proximity with the sick son for the past two weeks or in the last 72 hours she recently tested negative for Covid or else this is a careless act. These traditional practices during the pandemic need to be shelved aside just like he did on Mias. Sad reality but it’s the new norm

  10. First of all it is for Abida Mia to realise the significance of Chakwera not attending her husband’s funeral. So let’s keep Mia’s out of these comments.
Geoff Kachale was a humble and honourable young man with a family. As much as I have differences with JB, as a mother who has lost her son, we have to to be sympathetic to JB.
Covid which JB said was not in Malawi during DPP rule is now in Malawi under Tonse rule. So she must be held accountable and having lost a son maybe now she knows better.

  11. Bwana President apa mwasonyezeratu kuti bwana Mia m’mangofuna kuwagwiritsira ntchito kuti akuoloseni Mia was like brother to you and pano papita nthawi yaitali bwana Mia chichokereni not even single day kungopita kukaona momwe anagona are you serious bwana President and bwana Chilima muli ndi mkango nanunso azakutayani ngati momwe wayira bwana Mia and I don’t think that you are a real man of God

  12. RIP
Yes agree with all the comments Why did the President not visit Mia family
Shows what kind of mentality he has better late than never mr president

    1. Chakwera does not like Muslims and Mia was a leading Muslim in Malawi. Abida Mia must not waste her time with MCP.

    1. Amafuna Mia chifukwa cha ndalama zake, pano ali pa mpando anaiwala and I think Mia was like a burden for him to seek second term, too bad kupanda umunthu, shame! May Mbuya’s Soul continue resting in Peace! “Nthawi”

    1. More questions than answers my friend! I think bwana Chakwera apa anafunika kulingalira mozama because he has given a bad precedence. Mia was second in command in his party so failure to send even an official to represent him on Mia funeral and not even going to console his wife Abida until now raises more questions. However to error is human i believe my President has learnt from a mistake made and next time will not happen. Sorry our former president Mrs Joyce Banda for the loss and may God confort you in this trying times. MHSRIEP.

  13. Koma kwa Mrs Mia mpakana pano simunapite. These are all lessons for some of us. Some friends are only there when you are in a position to help. Zako zikada basi. Sidik was only useful ali ndi moto. Pano apita kwa Mayi because she is in a position to help. Thanks soldier Lucius Banda for your song ” NTHAWI”
