Sumbuleta arrested over sexual misconduct at MBC

Malawi Police in Blantyre have finally arrested former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director general, Aubrey Sumbuleta and is being kept at Limbe Police Station.

Former MBC director general Aubrey Sumbuleta: Asked an employee in his office to bend over and pull the dress to satisfy himself by seeing her nudiness

Sumbuleta, accused of sexually harassing female employees at the public broadcaster, was arrested Saturday morning from his Mpingwe Township home in Limbe.

National Police publicist, James Kadadzera has confirmed the development, saying law enforcers will have to record statement from him before they go further with legal proceedings.

His arrest follows recommendations from the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which investigated sexual harrassment allegations which were leveled against the former MBC Director General.

MHRC found that Sumbuleta violated several human rights in contravention of the Constitution, the Gender Equality Act and International Human Rights principles and standards.

The Commission found that he sexually harassed four female employees at different occasions and places and the complainants had no consented relationship with him and he expected them to give in to his advances because they are women.

MHRC, therefore, ordered the Malawi Police to commence legal prosecution against him over the charges.

The Commission advised the women to seek compensation for sexual harassment from Sumbuleta and has ordered MBC to compensate the women because the corporation does not have a workplace policy on sexual harassment.

MBC was also ordered to re-instated of the victims, who retired early after being ill-treated due to the sexual harassment.

Sumbuleta was fired at MBC for other disciplinary issues earlier this year.

The slay queens are everywhere. They don’t have brains. They find their way out of poverty through their skirts. Right from their sukulu ya kwacha ,they pass exams by corrupting the innocent Josephs and Samsons.
Every where they go they use their feminine power for survival. Sumbuleta may be a victim of these Delilahs.

You are on point. These women at MBC were using their bottom power to survive instead of using their brains. Lero akufuna amubere Chakwera for being his agents in his efforts to unleash the reign of terror against anybody perceived as a DPP sympathiser. Shame to open bottomed MBC slay queens.

There is another Sumbuleta at Alliance One Tobacco Company answering to the name Emmanuel Mervin Banda. Emmanuel is the Director of HR and as the tobacco season is fast approaching, he is screwing would be season employees as a condition to be recruited. What is nasty is that he is having those sex escapades in his office. Last year a poor woman was fired because she allegedly rejected his sexual advances. As junior employees we are ready to expose him. If he is not taken to task on these allegations then the image of Alliance One Tobacco Company will be… Read more »

You have to report him formally. It doesn’t help bringing the matter here. Go and report him just like Sumbuleta was

Arrest is easy but remember where is evidence? Most of those things happened one on one in sumbuleta’s office. The women will allege and simbuleta will deny, so where is the evidence or witness?

Just curious: what would happen if this dude was thrown into the homosexual wing of the jail? He would learn, albeit too late, the importance of “consent”. And he would come out of prison a truly reformed man. Just sayin’.
