Archbishop Ziyaye tells Catholics to vote to shape Malawi
Archbishop of the Catholic Church’s Lilongwe Archdiocese, His Grace Tarsizius Ziyaye, has urged the church’s faithful to view the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections as opportunity of reshaping the future of the country.

He said this on Saturday at Area 2 in Lilongwe when he opened Bishop Nervi Media Centre.
Ziyaye said as eligible voters , people should be guided by the Pastoral letter which was released earlier in the year on how to elect a good leader.
“Am appealing to you to keep your voter registration slip safely to enable you exercise your democratic right to vote for a leader of your choice in the next elections,” Archbishop told them.
Ziyaye said Malawians need to choose a leader who will be able to serve them and provide their basic needs all the time.
The Archbishop pointed of the church would continue promoting social teaching of the church to its members so that they should be on top of things.
He said Malawians should be encouraged to pray for the nation that the elections should be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
“We should pray to God so that he should continue blessing the country in its endeavours,” Ziyaye said.
Voter registration exercise for the May 2019 elections ended on Friday on November 9, 2018
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will release the final figures of the registered voters soon.
Although some places like Lilongwe, Kasungu and Blantyre reported to have registered few voters compared the projected figures.
There were calls for MEC go reopened the registration exercise in some districts which had face some challenges during the registration process but MEC has not made any firm stand regarding the request yet.
Various electoral stakeholders have voiced their concern on the retrieved registration machine which was found in Mozambique after it went missing on its way to Mwanza.
A week later, another registration machine went missing in Mzuzu and is yet to be recovered after being reported to Police.

Thought it was the Bishops who were under house arrest in Lilongwe and later Dr Kamuzu Banda agreed that we should have a referendum in Malawi which led to Multi party? It is now the Catholic Bishops in DRC who have forced Kabila to resign.
When it suits them right, politicians would want us believe that religious leaders should not be involved in politics. Their place is nowhere else but the pulpit. Their role is to bring lost souls to salvation.
As a believer, it is hard to separate religion from politics. Due to our shallow understanding of the two topics, we have been played by politicians to take their side on the subject as it suits them. Indeed people perish for lack of knowledge. For many of us, religion provide the foundation for morality. For how do we know corruption, stealing, killing, oppressing the poor, making false promises is wrong if it is not through religion.
Since far back in biblical times, religious leaders have been involved in politics and actively more so. Think of Moses, Joshua and all the Judges. Read the book of Judges in the Bible. When God’s flock is being oppressed, the Bible compels religious leaders to speak for the oppressed.
“For the leaders of my people–the LORD’s watchmen, his shepherds–are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming”. Isaiah 56:10
God requires his shepherds to protect his flock, to warn it of any dangers. By telling the people to exercise their right by voting, to choose leaders who will serve them and provide their basic needs, the Archbishop is just doing his role as required by God. He is not like a dog that does not back when danger is coming, only sleep and dream.
Refusing to be dumb dogs, the Catholic Bishops decided to issue a pastoral letter in 1992 rebuking the ills of Kamuzu’s dictatorial regime.
When King Saul disobeyed God, it was Samuel the Prophet who rebuked him. When King David sinned with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed it was Prophet Nathan who reprimanded him. It is the same prophets God sent to anoint the kings. Why couldn’t they take anyone else to do the anointing? When the president or ministers take an oath they use either the Bible or Koran. Why is this the case? It shows the important role religion plays in politics.
I am Catholic, and I think our Lord Bishops are now confusing us. The article says we should take the elections as an opportunity to reshape our country. That statement is already anti-DPP. It means DPP has failed to put our country in shape. There are other incidences that suggest that our Lord Bishops themselves are anti-DPP.
1. When the First Lady, through her BEAM trust tried to assist Providence Secondary School under the Catholic Church following the fire that gutted a hostel at the school, the Arch Bishop of Blantyre, Bishop Msusa, refused the donation, saying the Church had already received support for the hostel. Reall?. The Church has so many projects that need support. Why not just receive the donation and redirect it where it is needed. Yet when Chilima donated cement to a Church in Mulanje, under the Archi-Diocese of Blantyre, the Church did not object.
2. The First Lady went to St Mary’s Girls Sec. School under the Catholic Church. The school released the First Lady’s MSCE results to Patricia Kaliati, a Catholic, who used the results to castigate the First Lady at a rally in Blantyre. Did the Church discipline the school management?
3. The Arch Bishop of Blantyre rebuked APM for using the word “ndikunyenyani nyenyani”. Yet the UTM leaders, most of whom are Catholics, have hurled many insults at APM and First Lady. Has the Arch Bishop ever rebuked them?
4. About two months ago, and we all heard it, the Arch Bishop of Blantyre advised Catholics to vote for a fellow Catholic. The statement was made in the presence of Chilima, the UTM leader, himself a Catholic. Apart from Chilima, the Catholic Church has many members who are leaders of political parties, e.g. Mark Katsonga, John Chisi, etc. How do you think they feel that you have decided to promote Chilima only?
5. Recently, Bishop Martin Mtumbuka said a lot of negatives about government at Ludzi Sec. Sch. Where is the Catholic Church leading us?
Ndala zidayamba kalekale some of ppl I don’t understand you what you should know is this every one in this planet earth is a political affiliated , why are you voting? That’s promoting politics so before saying anything think frist
UTM is a Roman Catholic Church party and this is undisputed. Vatican is funding UTM and this too is undisputed. A Catholic Bishop is involved in killing of a person with Albinism this is undisputed also. Masangwi killed Edward Chasowa a polytechnic 4th year Mechanical Engineer another undisputed killing. The choice is yours to rate UTM/Catholics
A bishop kungolangiza a khristu kuti akavotere munthu oti athandiza miyoyo ya amalawi koma a DPP ayamba kale kulalamuka kuti a bishop asamapange ndale? What the Bishop forgot to tell the faithful is how his church will stop the Catholic Clergy’s involvement in the killing of Albinos and how he is intending to compensate the Masambuka family.
Was it the Catholic Church that killed Masambuka?
