Kafuwa replaces Ntonya as Army deputy commander

Malawi Defence Force leadership has been reshuffled with the firing of Lieutenant General Ernest Ntonya and replacing him with Brigadier General Clement Kafuwa as deputy commander.

President Bingu wa Mutharika has also appointed  Brigadier John Msonthi as military Chief of Staff.

Fired: Lt Gen Ntonya

The development follows the change of guard in the aftermath of anti-government protests that left at least 18 people dead.

Mutharika already  replaced the long-standing commander of the Malawian army, Gen. Marko Chiziko and appointed Brigadier General Henry Odillo to replace him.

Chiziko was appointed national security advisor of the President, a position which was specifically created for him.—Nyasa Times
