Che Nkope to get Malawi govt funding for medical trip

Che Nkope comic-maker Nicholas Mbonera, who is also a DJ at Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) FM  has received good news from government  that it will fund his medical trip to South Africa.

The comic-maker is currently admitted to Blantyre Adventist Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) pending travel to South Africa for medical treatment.

He was diagnosed with cardiogenic shock, a condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood as the body requires.

Mbonela needs about K7 million (US$17 031.6) for treatment in South Africa which Ministry of Information has committed to fund all expenses of the trip.

Director of Information Gerald Viola confirmed  the ministry “ will fund the trip.”

Mbonela’s brother James, also confirmed that they were told by ministry officials about their commitment.

He said they are waiting for doctors to clear Mbonela -also known as Nthumwi Nikodemo of the Atumwi fame  – to fly.

Che Nkope versus Nancy comics have become such a sensation on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp.

Mbonera says he mooted the Nancy character in 2009 when some girl from Che Musa was head-over-heels in love with him and used to make long annoying calls to him.

He however, admitted that during the making of the comics, he never thought they would be such a sensation in the entertainment industry.

Mbowela is planning to produce a sitcom that will feature Nancy and Che Nkope modelled around Rowan Atkinson’s Mr Bean.

He  released a song titled Some More which features Dan Lu and Nancy. The song is a theme song and was included in the Che Nkope versus Nancy CD but will also be included in his upcoming album.
