Health worker arrested for medical drug theft
A health worker at Thuchila Health Centre in Mulanje has been arrested on allegations that he stole cartons of malaria drugs and diagnostic kits.
Director of Health and Social Services at Mulanje District Council Dr. Alinafe Kalanda said a patient who went to the health centre early in the morning on Monday was suspicious that cartons of drugs were been removed from one of the rooms at the hospital facility.
Kalanda said the patient alerted people in the area who in turn alered the police and Mulanje District Hospital.
“When we rushed to the health centre, we discovered that 600 cartons of the malaria drug as well as 400 diagnostic kits were missing,” he said.
He said this was after going through the medical drug inventory.
