ICT can reduce unemployment in Malawi – Jappie

Minister of information, Tourism and Civic Education, Jappie Mhango says, Information, communications and Technology (ICT) has a potential to reduce  youth high employment rate which Malawi is facing.

Mhango was speaking in Lilongwe when he was launching ICT Sector Review Validation workshop for Malawi.

He said the sector has potential to reduce unemployment if well nurtured.

Mhango said ICT has already demonstrated the potentiality of ICT in creating direct and indirect jobs.

“Let us work towards bringing  more ICT jobs  to Malawi and increasing the competitiveness of our entrepreneurs engaged in agriculture, manufacturing and services so that they become global and regional actors,” said Mhango.

Mhango gave examples on how ICT has transformed Rwanda, Mauritius, and Kenya by tapping into global ICT job opportunity.

Mhango has since disclosed that his ministry has completed a review of Communications Act of 1998, which will be is said to be sent to Parliament to debate on.

The review has been done with support from African Development Bank.
