Jailed for stealing Cop’s purse in Limbe

The Dalton Road Magistrate Court in Limbe handed an 18 months imprisonment to Gerald Masangano for stealing a purse that belonged to a police officer at Kapenga bus stage in Limbe.

According to court records, the purse which contained an ATM Bank card and K4, 000 cash  was picked by Gerald from the complainant Constable Chitani of Blantyre Police station when he pretended to be helping Chitani with luggage as she tried to board a minibus with a friend Edna Malola.

Masangano pleaded not guilty to the charge.

But prosecution successfully proved its case with Malola also testifying in court.

The court said that there is an influx of cases of the nature in Limbe committed especially at the bus terminals and the market and the sentence should serve as a caution to those with the intent to commit such a crime.

Masangano, 20, hails from Mmodzi village Traditional Authority Makhuwira in Chikhwawa District.
