Leader of Youth Decide Campaign, Charles Kajoloweka, has called on the new administration led by President Lazarus Chakwera to appoint a youth affairs minister of 35 years or below to better co-ordinate youth policies and services for young people.
At a news conference held in Mzuzu, Kajoloweka said President Chakwera should include capable youth at Cabinet-level and other decision making positions to l ensure government policy benefits young people.
“The Minister of Youth should be a capable young person of 35 years or below,” said Kajoloweka.
He also said there should be transparency and accountability in all public appointments.
“We need transparency and accountability in the appointment of public officials and boards into public bodies including parastatal board,” said Kajoloweka.
He said government should also take action in any “dubious appointments and ghost workers.”
President Chakwera is yet to name a full cabinet list and other keep positions in governments including the boards of the statutory corporations.
Chakwera, 65, a former church preacher, became Malawi’s 6th President after amassing 2 607 043 votes against immediate past president Peter Mutharika’s 1 751 877 votes in the June 23 2020 fresh presidential election.

Run for president Polofesa Kajoloweka. Run.
oh i see! mr kajoloweka so you want chakwera to chose that hrdc lawyer as minister of justice? well he is young
Not all young people are wise. Take Ralph kasambara for example, he became attorney General when he was very young and he is the one who accused cassim chilumpha of resigning constructively. When he was trusted as justice minister, he connived to shoot Paul mphwiyo. Some of the prominent thieves are also young. And chakwera should ensure that Cabinet members should not be MPs. If he an MP wants to be… Read more »
You do not have to be ‘mmasikini’ to care about ‘umasikini’! A lot of the youths are disproportionately engaged in thieving and corruption in the country because they over-value instant gratification, fame and even unaccounted-for wealth and never value societal benefits of integrity, patience and hardwork! It is enough to push for youth-friendly policies without regard to who actually effectuates those policies!!!!!!
Mr Kanjoloweka, do you have one of them in your books who is younger of that age? in some of your concerns, its like you want the President to ask you how he has to choose the Minister or is it that i’m not understanding you? or you mean he has to advertise the Ministerial Post? Because in that way, we will be sure that yes indeed there was transparency in choosing them, or am i wrong? some of these things lets leave it in the hands of President please, let him exercise his power, can we do that? Lets… Read more »
I think the president should put 50% youth of which 25% females and 25% males,in his cabinet and 50% of those old people,of 25% females and 25% that wil be a well balanced cabinet.
But selecting some one of 35 years on ministrial position wouldnt be good ,cause this position need someone fully matured, zikhoza kulowetsa zibwana zimenezi.
