Speaking at Zomba CCAP Hall on Sunday during the fund raising event, Chilima urged the congregation to change their mindset by migrating from the spirit of dependency to that of self reliance.

He commended the church leadership for encouraging Christians to mobilize resources for the construction of a magnificent hall at the church instead of depending on others.

The Vice President said what the church is doing was in line with what President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is promoting where everyone is encouraged to be self reliant even at household level through hard work.

‘’As we are encouraging people to be self reliant and churches to develop our country, there are still some other people who resist to change their mindset by thinking negatively about their nation. Such people cannot make Malawi move forward because a country’s development begins at household level,’’ Chilima said.

The Vice President advised Christians to give to the church and share with others as one way of worshiping God.

“When churches ask us to give, let us do it because everything we have belongs to God, the owner of everything,’’ he advised.

Chilima urged Malawians to keep enough food from the crops they have harvested this year to avoid hunger.

‘’The country has been blessed with enough food this year so you have to take care of food you have harvested. Despite harvesting enough food this year, I know that there are some people who always misuse such blessings through various means like selling all their produce, over eating and thereafter seek food aid,’’ he said.

The Vice President read from the book of Mark 5: 24-34 and presided over the presentation of trophies to sections of the church and certificates of appreciation to invited guests and church members.

Moderator for Zomba CCAP Church Reverend Reynold Mangisa thanked God for blessing the country with leaders who fear God.

He commended President Mutharika and his Vice for attending church functions which shows that they really put God first in carrying out development activities of the country.

The Moderator thanked the Vice President for coming to attend the Paper Sunday service and donating K1 million.

In his message from the books of 1 Samuel 17:40-50 and Mark 5:24-34, he told the congregation to do things extraordinary, be creative and have passion to start doing things to develop the country.

Mangisa cited the example of David who did extraordinary things before King Saul and other army commanders killing Goliath for the victory of Israelites.

During the Paper Sunday, the church raised K 7.7 Million which will be used to finish the construction of the church hall project.
