Mangochi DC warns against wayward behaviour to curv HIV/AIDS
Mangochi district commissioner (DC) James Manyetera has urged people in the district to guard against any behaviour which could expose them to contracting HIV.
He was speaking at Chimwala Primary School ground on Monday during a sensitisation meeting on the forthcoming construction of the 72- kilometre Mangochi- Liwonde Road.
“Much as the road will bring socio-economic benefits, not everything will be rosy. There will be a lot of interaction between the locals and people working on the road project which is why it is important to avoid certain behaviours which may leave some bruises after the project is completed,” he said.
Manyetera pointed out that government embarked on the construction of the road because of the economic benefits it has to both Mangochi and the country as a whole, saying the current road is in bad shape with a lot of potholes.
The DC observed that Mangochi being a tourist attraction destination deserved a better road to attract more tourists thereby generating more foreign exchange and revenue.
Mangochi Nkungulu member of Parliament (MP) Aisha Mambo (United Democratic Front-UDF) said the road will create employment for locals and ease mobility.
She encouraged people along the construction site to provide the contractor with all the necessary support for the smooth implementation of the project.
Senior Chief Chimwala appealed to the Roads Authority (RA) and Mangochi District Council to compensate those that would be affected by the road construction project.
Mota-Engil will construct the K29 billion road which is expected to finish in 2018 with funding from African Development Bank
