MPUC Pushes for Peace Ahead of Elections in Nsanje
The Malawi Peace and Unity Commission (MPUC) has urged political parties in Nsanje to put peace above politics as the nation heads to the September 16 general elections.

Commission chairperson, Bishop Mary Nkosi, made the call during a peace-building agreement signing ceremony involving the Multiparty Liaison Committee and the District Peace and Unity Committee.
Nkosi stressed the need for parties to move beyond rhetoric and take peace messages directly to the grassroots, where tensions often flare during heated campaigns.
“The responsibility of keeping this election peaceful rests with all of us. Peace is not just spoken at rallies—it must be lived in our communities,” Nkosi said.
Alliance for Democracy (Aford) district governor, Paul Bizeck, hailed the signing of the agreement as proof of parties’ collective resolve to protect peace throughout the electoral process.
The three-day training, supported by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), brought together key stakeholders to commit themselves to non-violence and unity during and after the polls.
With election day fast approaching, MPUC’s message is clear: the ballot must not become a battlefield.
