Muntharika shock Malawians for deserting Goodall Gondwe in death
Former president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) has shocked Malawians for deserting late former Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe with some politicians saying ‘he is a failed leader, an abuser and user.’
By Friday morning, hundreds of Malawians flooded the social media where they lambasted Mutharika for showing what they termed as ‘un-Malawian lifestyle’ by shunning Gondwe’s funeral.
It has been a tradition for APM to shun funerals of his fellow politicians including those who worked so hard for his botched presidency.
Recently, he also pathetically stayed away from the funeral of former First Lady Anne Muluzi – wife the former President Dr Bakili Muluzi who gave the Bingu family the presidency on a silver platter while they vagabondly languished. Anne Muluzi was the mother to Hon Atupele Muluzi who was his own running mate.
But this time, Malawians expected Mutharika to act differently considering that Goodall had been ‘very loyal and honest to him all through’.
“His vice president dies (kumwalira mwadzidzidzi). Koma iye osawoneka. Kukhwima kotani uku? Kapena zizimba zosapita mmaliro zotani izi?” asked Robert Manyungwa on News and Reports Forum.
Manyungwa is a staunch follower of the former ruling party.
“Being his vice, he [APM] was supposed to go soon after getting the sad news,” he added.
Some social media fanatics suggested that Mutharika’s shunning of Goodall’s funeral service is a testimony that he does not truly love northerners.
Peter Muntharika is a man that lack traditional values, wisdom and morals. The truth is that he became president because of the history of his brother. He should not have been president in the first place. He is so useless.
On the other hand, the north is used as a door mat in Malawian politics. In any country on the planet the death of a prominent politician with the like Goodal Gondwe demands a certain decorum from the living colleagues. It’s so obvious, no matter how reliable and honest one can be in DPP, northerners will never be good enough.
