Mutharika says Malawi shall never be recolonised, warns CSOs against civil disobedience

President Peter Mutharika arrived in the northern city of Mzuzu with a stern warning to some civil society organisations (CSOs) whom he claimed have been bent of overthrowing his administration since he became the Head of State.

President Mutharika warns CSOs
DPP regional governor Kenneth Sanga, Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe and other officials welcome President Mutharika in Mzuzu

Speaking at Katoto in the city, Mutharika said he was aware that some CSOs in the country have been receiving funding from foreign organisations with the aim of using the same to allow foreign elements interfere in Malawi politics and set their agenda.

“Tell those boys that they will not succeed. Malawi is a sovereign country and I will not allow foreigners dictate their agenda on Malawians,” said Mutharika.

The CSOs under the banner of Human Rights Defenders (HRD) are planning mass protests  to force President  Mutharika’s  resignation.

The groups also signalled that they could go ahead with what they describe as a “vigil” if Mutharika did not listen to their demands.

Mutharika charged that  it is foreigners who are confusing this country and they have to stop that.

“Don’t interfere in the politics of this country…You are guests of this country, you are not citizens,” he said.

President Mutharika is in Mzuzu to attend Malawi’s 54th Anniversary of Independence and launch the newly built Mzuzu-Nkhatabay road among other assignments.

Mutharika, who is seeking re-election in next year’s Tripartite Elections, has won the hearts of many residents of Mzuzu and Nkhatabay for the construction of the road which others say is the best quality road constructed in Malawi in recent years.

On arrival, the President was welcomed by hundreds who braved the cold evening weather in the city including the newly re-elected DPP Vice President for the north, Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe and his regional team.

President Mutharika told the crowd that he was happy to have been welcomed by the large number of people saying such a gesture proves critics who say he is not popular in the region wrong.

He called for continued support for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) during the elections next year.

“Support us and we will continue developing this region. Am here to prove my haters who have been saying we have not done any development here wrong. We will be launching the finished projects this week and let them tell us who has done them”, he added.

Mutharika challenged what he called “foreigners and their civil society agents” wishing his government bad luck that Malawi shall never be colonised again.

An observer said  in any case, blaming colonialism doesn’t answer the question of what needs to be done about Malawi – the problem child country – now.

However, any reinvention of colonialism be it West or the East, is unacceptable.

  2. Why, then does he secretly hold a Green Card/US Passport.? Why not bring the USD 8 million he is keeping in the USA back to Malawi? Weak, gullible man that is manipulated by those he keeps and surround him.

  3. Five years into multiparty era under the watch of Bakili UDF was adrift on katangale the donor community was alarmed and sent the alarm to Bakiliwho told them off that Malawi was a sovereign state that sparked the donor flight out of Malawi the political engineer was at the end of his wits came Bingu whose first was said to good delivery then crept shallow success into his head he tossed out the British envoy plus July 2011 carnage Bingu was a wounded leader limping while the donor shut their purses the economy took a grave plunge so APM is once again courting economic gales on poor Malawians through his thoughtless statements. The CSO’s are easy to handle you just smoke them out contact Rev Sembereka and Rafik Hajat for the replay rehearsals moreover Henry MUSSA plus Bon Kalindo will give you the correct details on the DPP job description. Mr president don’t hesitate to refer to the “Bingu Smoke Out” manuals to deal with the gadflies

  4. Mr President you develop the same syndromes of paranoia like your late brother! There must be too much dirt and dead bodies in your family’s closets!

  5. The difference between colonizers and you my president is that, the colonizers p,under our resources but they set aside something for (visible) development; whilst with you sir, you take everything g in yiur tracks and hide it overseas with nothing left for social development. The infrastructure that was built by atsamunda under the leadership of Kamuzu are still regarded as landmarks today. The economy has stalled since up to party democracy due to lack of visionary leadership. Malawi is in a worse position today courtesy of UDF, PP and DPP.

  6. APM is so proud of his country Malawi and so keen to develop it. So why did he run away and spend 40 years in USA? He only returned when his brother became President, so that he could get his snout in the trough and enjoy the good life. His talk of recolonization is just a red herring to distract people’s attention from his own failings. His best years were spent working in the USA and paying taxes to the American government to develop that country not Malawi, the land of his birth. His motto is ‘Take what you can’, not ‘Give what you can’.

  7. Colonialism has nothing to do with your failures and incompetence, in fact we were far better off during the colonial era than your mediocrity leadership. you have failed Malawians so miserably you got to be a shamed of yourself Mr Thief in Chief

  8. Lets respect our leaders and elders! Insulting and using filthy language is unMalawian. Where have our morals gone to? Shame!

    1. When they were stealing our tax payers money where were there morals? IYEYOTU ANALI KU USA MMENE IFE TINKAVUTIKA KUMENYERA UFULU. Ali ndi kwawo KU America ife kwathu ndi konkuno

    2. This has to be told to APM not Malawians!! Nobody has used filthy language on him! Its him who uses filthy language on Malawians!!

When relying this to him, tell him never to be good at running away when its time to fight for our destiny, only to come back to plumber when we do it, bullshit!! Who can glean on that…………………! Fotseki

  9. Mr, please stop accusing the angerezi. Why have you not spoken about this in their face before? R u afraid of them?
The CSOs are there for good governance. I for one totally agrees with what they r saying.
On on other note, stop politicking the Mzuzu / Nkhatabay road as if it’s the Dpp administration that constructed the road. Only those who don’t know who really funded the road can be cheated on that. We know this to be funded by the World Bank who wants to link the northern collided with a better network.

  10. In my view, CSOs should not organize any demonstration. This is because such demonstrations have not worked before. In the prevailing circumstances, the CSOs should sue government-in particular the Director of Public Procurement to make public all the tendering, the evaluations stating who won and related payments.

Further to that, the CSOs should sue PIOONER INVESTMENTS for bringing APM and his government into disrepute. Further, lets work with the Registrar General to make public the shareholders of this company after which the CSOs need to apply to deregister the company , its board and director for aiding and abating corruption.

Generally, we should have a law that debars private sector companies that induce Public sector employees including politicians to participate in corruption.

  11. Please Mr. President, make serious statements only when sober. If this country is to be recolonized, then the Chinese are way ahead. In fact we have already been sold to China.

      1. Point of correction! You better say, in the current Malawi we’re colonized by Indians and Chinese through APM! Its him using them and allowing them to do more damage on mother Malawi!! How can a head of state open a party account single handedly? Where on earth is a party run by an individual? Is that democracy? Nde kuwaona a Dausi, a Tembenu etc chifukwa cha umphawi nde kumangotchingira mzopusa zomwe, mxiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Its not donation to a party but to an individual…………………………. muzipusitsa nduna zanu zonunkhazo! Even if it is a donantion, why should Karim wait for a contract resources? Inu simungaone kuti this was agreed before payment and no wonder he quickly acted accordingly after being paid by the police!! Inu zoona Botomani basi yekhayekha kupanga ziganizo zonunkha zimene anapangazo basi a Tembenu law yonse kufufutika amvekere yes, there is no mistake, isaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fotseki

  12. IF DPP IS A CREDIBLE ORGANISATION, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO REACT OVER RESENT REVEALATION THAT PETER MUNTHARIKA OPENED A SECRETE ACCOUNT IN THE NAME OF DPP.
AS DPP LET’S NOT PAY A BLIND EYE TO THIS REVEALATION BECAUSE
    1. It will ruin/has ruined the reputation of DPP.
    2. Were members of the party aware that there was this account
    3. If the party was a ware, why Muntharika was the sore signatory to this account. How many accounts have been opened in the name of DPP with sore signatories if the DPP constitution allows this to happen
    4. Being a sore signatory, and the only one who knew about this account, did he disclose to party members that it had received such big donation?. Because that amount can build approximately 160 standard police houses at k9m each using direct labour.
    5. Muntharika is just like any Malawian like tisamufungatire ngati dzira – its as good as kufungatira dzira la njoka, DPP WAKE UP. How can the organisation control the money that it is not aware of. Which credible organisation can have an account with a sore signatory, not even even the treasure general. What is the essence of having party structures? Dzuka Dpp
    6. This glolification syndrome is biting us. We should know that by the end of the day we are individual households. Yet unknowingly we support leaders that are busy enriching themselves. If DPP was that inquisitve and courageous to challenge Peter Muntharika over this revealation, it will discover that most of this money was eaten up by Muntharika himself because there is no control.
    7. Do you know that the corruption practices that are associated with this police contract will cost Malawi over K3billion kwacha if CDH bank goes ahead to claim over this corruption act.
If Pioneer could part away with k145m over this contract, how much profit were they making from a single contract?
Let’s own our country. We should think beyond politics because by the end of the day we are affected as individuals.
So lets be vigilant to demand accountability from our leaders as suggested by that British lady. You know anthu amatilira kuti we protect so much the snakes that bite us. We should not support zipani like football clubs. For Example Asernal ingaluze bwanji, a supporter clings to it because by the end of the day this is just fun. BUT POLITICS PUT FOOD ON OUR TABLE. PUT OUR LIVES UNDER SHELTER. SHAPES OUR FUTURE. For example four boys died in Zomba because a substandard school block collapsed on them. This is all because our politics do not put enough money for building education infrastructure accross Malawi, it does not buy drugs nor employ adequate medical personel. Alimi amataya tomatoes, mangoes, milk, chimanga kuola etc because of lack of market/and food processing factories. IN SHORT POLITICS IS OUR SURVIVAL. Until Malawians realise this, they will still be dancing for the very leaders who exarbate their misery. DZUKA Malawi lets take politics seriously. South African always watch what their leaders are doing, if they notice any single malpratice they speak out right away because that is playing with their lifeline. CAN WE PLEASE WAKE MALAWIANS

  13. This man is now becoming a dictator like his brother Bingu. No law forbids people from disobedience for a just cause. Don’t take this country into anarchy because people will not sit and watch. Sorry, you ARE A BIG THIEF, CORRUPT AND NEPOTISTIC LIKE BROTHER

  14. Very stupid old man. You think the mzungu wants Malawi? There is a reason they left. Nobody chased them out, they left on their own accord knowing the place was fucked already… Stop looking for excuses, you and the DPP are the reason we are in this position… I don’t see you making such comments when you are at dinner parties with all the ambassadors…

  15. Oho! No foreigner will teach you how to run Malawi? Really? Do you know how to run a country wena? All you are doing best is stealing and corruption. You have introduced to Malawi: Policegate, Chimangagate, Nepotism, Cashgate, all bad gates you name them. Are you for real?? Your brother attacked diplomats and foreigners in his reign power, and Malawi went down webbling with lack of forex and fuel. The roads and projects you are boasting to be inaugurating are all donor funded. Achitsiru, musationongere dziko. Dzibwelerani kwanu matchona inu. Fotsek!!!

    1. THE MAN HAS NO CLUE RUNNING GOVERNMENT. HE IS A VERY STUPID OLD MAN. HE STAYED IN USA FOR 40 YEARS BUT BEHAVES LIKE HE HAS NEVER STAYED IN A DEVELOPED COUNTRY

  16. Stop wasting your time on foreigners CSOs talk reality. Why don’t you talk about what your party thugs are doing? Why don’t you blame your cadets of what are doing with these character assisination of Henry Mussa? Why don’t you talk on corruption that has been order of the day in your administration.Don’t take us for a ride thats my my words!

  17. Even at a village set up when a father is hacking his own innocent children with a panga knife tradition allows other family friends to rescue the innocent kids!! Mr President, you might wish to take it or ignore it, your government is more less like a “Malawian Vampire!” I for one and as a Malawian am very proud of the foreigners who are speaking on the evil your government is doing!! Umfiti siungapose pamenepa a bwanaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

  18. Thats good but i wonder i think nobody has never thing of building good hotels near our airport people who land in malawi they have to travel mils to get where they can have good place please the deveropers what do we get near air port shabinis and makola akhuku owned by foregners

  19. Nkhalamba iwe usatinyase, Kukamwa konyasako, Malawi is not a monarchy as well so you don’t have what it takes to intimidate CSOs, Kupusa basi.

  20. Mr President its you and your cronies who behave like colonisers .Azungu looted our gold ,timber etc.You loot our Taxes ngati kuti kwanu sikokuno. You are the New Breed of Colonisers.

  21. Even if you don’t like or hate these so called foreigners or CSOs, Your Excellency, at least listen carefully to the message they carry on behalf of the general public and acknowledge that zinthu zavuta pa Malawi. The car seems to have stalled and the engine isn’t crunking. Anthuachino anu akufa m’zipatala and some are losing their lives due to rampant crime. As a father of the nation please introspect deeply as you head for another 5 years of rule. We may not agree with the way the CSOs are going about delivering to you Sir, but they truly carry with them our frustrations on the ground. Listen to our prayers and hear our voices through the CSOs.

    1. Well said. But Mutharika is a dull president. He does not listen. He is a demon-possessed. Sometimes i intended to think he is abnormal. No matter how people complain or offer advice he just sits phwiiii nge chinthu chawaka

      1. Maybe the problem is with us the voters. Why do devote for a president we know has failed, doesn’t listen and has no vision at all.

  22. Mr President, you have been caught with your hand in the taxpayers cash, now you are attacking everyone who speaks against your blatant theft. There were other presidents below who spoke the same, they lost, one even died.

  23. Mention those foreign countries. Nobody wants to recolonise Malawi, all we want is to purge criminals from politics

  24. akuba ndalama za Aid,Gogo wautsiru iwe…My only wish is for you to go back where you came from…You are a disgrace,a thief ,a liar and murderer
