Mutharika shakes up Malawi Covid-19 committee: Opposition leader Lowe drafted in
President Peter Mutharika showed he is in control of the government’s response to check the spread of corona virus pandemic with a dramatic decision to restructure the Special Cabinet Committee on Covid-19 making it more inclusive, bringing leader of opposition Lobin Lowe of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and other stakeholders and changing it to be a Presidential Task Force.

“I direct government o restructure what we have so far called the Cabinet Committee on coronavirus. From now the committee will now be called the Presidential Task Force of Coronavirus,” said Mutharika in his special televised address to the nation on Tuesday.
He said the task force will be co-chaired by a Cabinet minister and a Professor of Public Health.
“The Taskforce will directly report to me,” said the President.
In the restructured committee, Mutharika has also included Christian Health Association of Malawi (Cham), Public Affairs Committee, Chief Councils among others. He said more sectors including civil society will be included.
Mutharika said Lowe has accepted to be part of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 on “on behalf of opposition parties.”
He said below the Presidential Taskforce, there remain various technical committees which include various professionals and sectors from both the public and private sectors.
Mutharika said the country should pull in one direction to deal with the invisible enemy Covid-19.
“Coronavirus is real. Coronavirus is everywhere in every country. We all can see that. Anyone who denies the existence of coronavirus must be sent to mental hospital,” said Mutharika in apparent dig to opposition members particularly MCP’s legislator Ulemu Msungama.
The President said denying the existence of coronavirus is taking a dangerous path that will lead to death of many Malawians.
“Those politicians who send their people to be denying the existence of coronavirus want many Malawians to die,” he said.
He appealed to Malawians to stop listening to those that are politicising coronavirus fight in the country.
“Human life is scared. Let us respect human life. And let us save lives,” said Mutharika.

Lowe the only wise leader in opposition. He can a president.
These developments are very positive. I would want to register the following issues:
1. Please consider adding a CEO of one hotel as this is the hardest hit industry, and hence we need measures which will best protect them from going out of business.
2. Do not copy strategies from the first world. They are not applicable here.
Do we have old people’s homes here? No.
We cannot sustain subsidies to a large number of employed persons.
We have had far less sick and deaths.
We have controlled our boarders better.
Let us have a Malawian solution which will not destroy our country.
Keep it real, the private sector is the engine of the economy, and it cannot afford this period of little activity.
Let us love our country.
Well done job Mr president but consider representation of people with disability in the committee
Thanks mr Chilima, mwan’sokolotsa ndala ku quarantine. Koma nde mwantengetsa gogo.
Countrymen, let me congratulate both the party in government and the opposition political parties for deciding to work together in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to work together will not only ensure effective message acceptance but also stimulate compliance of public health measures in the population. COVID-19 is a serious public health matter that must not be ignored due to our political differences. What is most important is to wash our hands with soap frequently and observing general hygiene practices; ensuring social (or is it physical?) distance and avoiding touching our mouth, eyes and nose without washing our hands with soap. If we unite we can defeat the coronavirus like other countries have done. Unity for purpose is critical when handling public health colossal crises like COVID-19. It all begins with me.

The fruits of being a strong leader who can take any heat of the nation are being harnessed now – surely only the blind can not see but the spiritual wise can percieve your wise leadership Mr. President you always know how to approach situations with why, how, and when to implement them. Foolish Leaders with empty heads are just backing like mad dogs out there without knowing what to do – all they want is to occupy the state house APM you are the choosen Leader of this nation and no one shall unseat you without the will of God as the word of God remains to be the supreme over all authorities here on earth. God will bring down all those who exalts themselves and lift up all those who humbles themselves before you Lord. May the God Lord be with you all the time.
We have been Making alot of Noise for the Committee to be Lead by Professionals and for it to be Inclusive ….But You People thought you are Too Wise to take our advice …Give Us Credit at least ….Also thanks to the Opposition Leadership for Accepting ….My Warning …Don’t Fall into the Trap of Drawing Allowances and going on Useless Field Trips ….While we know that Health Workers don’t have enough PPE s….Decentralise the Fight to Constituency and Ward Levels ….Masks ,Hygiene ,Social distance Measures ….Otherwise if You Don’t Pump Sense into these People ….Mutopakidwapo Mafuta pakamwa za ziii nyama Atadya kale Ena…
Congratulate APM for listening to your voices. Pena pake tidziyamika wina akalabadira zokamba za wena ndiye umunthu kodi tidzingotsutsabe basi. Padzana we said ngomva zayekha lero wayankha madando anu mwati munachita kupanga phokoso yambani inanso tione paja ndi choncho chikhalidwe chanu kkkkk
This is perfect big up Mutharika together will stand. The sign of true leader . Saving lives is better than politics , absolutely necessary and perfect Mr president. Even non governmental agencies should be included.
So, Chilima knew that president Mutharika was talking to some opposition MPs. He then decided to talk about the need for government to work together with opposition to appear as if he is making clever suggestions. Chilima afa ndi kudzikudza.
Like him or hate him SKC shook APM awake from deep slumber..
Did you listen to the Chakwera speech today? Leader of opposition Lowe was NEVER consulted by the president and he never accepted to be included in the new Committee, characteristic of Peter Mutharika never to consult but just appoint. Saulos Chilima and other opposition members should be commended because they had been advocating for inclusiveness in the committee for a long time. Mutharika is good at procrastinating – do not mistake this for wise leadership!!
Lowe is much more sensible than Chakwera and Chilima combined.
What do you mean? NTCHONA has to include every malawian into this fight not just dpp thieves. This is a national and global pandemic not mulakho.
How, if I may ask?
This Lowe leader of opposition looks sharp upstairs than the nyekhwe fake accent so called man of God
Shame on liars that went on spreading rumors that APM is sick. Opposition even reached extent of saying that he is dead. Abale inu a Chakwera and A Saulosi lekani kufunira anzanu zoipa tonse ndi a Malawi . .Ulamuliro amapereka ndi Chauta fatsani a Saulosi. Lekani nsanje . Anthu sangakusankheni ai chifukwa mwaonetsa mtima woipa kwa anthu
let the sleeping dog lie
The clown that is Mgeme Kalirani and his counterpart Mr Botomani have been forced to eat a humble pie. Empty heads which are quick to dismiss whatever SKC says. Any wise person would have considered whether there is merit in what the Vice President said. SKC spoke of the need to have an inclusive Covid-19 Committee and a few days later APM has taken heed of his advice. I wonder whether what this Mgeme guy speaks is the position of the president. By the look of things it is not. Any sane person would not have him as his spokesperson because he does not convey to the people the position of his master.
Then there is Mr Botomani, lying to Malawians through his teeth without blinking an eye. One wise person said that when you lie you keep on lying as you will lie to cover the lie before. The good thing is that Mr Botomani’s lies have been caught on camera and it didn’t take an inquisitive journalist to uncover them. Thank God. He did it on his own volition and on camera too. Did this minister really think that they could be getting obscene allowances and Malawians will never get to know about them? I bet wherever Mr Botomani and his greedy crew of ministers are, damage control ranks highly in their minds.
My advice to these greedy people is to continue enjoying while it lasts.
Bravo Chilima ayamba kumvera pang’ono pang’ono akulu akulu ananena mzeru zayekha aviyika nsima m’madzi.Mr president Dausi simunthu oti mudzimumvera akulakwitsani mudzitukwanidwa ndinu.Zikomo poti mwayambapo kumva.
This was supposed to be done onset. By listening to what Chilima said you have lost nothing otherwise you have gained a lot. That’s what leadership is all about, even criticisms become advice if they’re constructive. So listening leadership is always good. Let Malawi fight the pandemic now.
It is a good and true stateman speech wosati kumangofuula, mentioning names, matama mkati, a word to Chilima anthu woti adzakuvotereni ndi ifeyo womwe mukutiona ngati opanda mzeru, ngakhale mukudzimva kuti ndi inu a nzeru koma simungadzivotere nokha.Be humble MR. Chilima, stop finger pointing and stop being pompous
Human life is “scared”??
APM, i like your Speech. Nice speech
Thank you HRDC mwatipumutsa.
Thanks to those who have eventually managed to pump some sense into this stubborn senile old man.
On the cash transfer part we know that this will just be another way to symphony money out of government for campaign purposes, let us wait for the task fiorce to sort out this mess, I hope the task force will be independent.
On lock down, forget it old man, it can’t work in Malawi..
“The Taskforce will directly report to me,” said the President.
.
Covid is the most important challenge facing the country which has to be tackled by the government. Why is the president not chairing his own committee, that way information will reach him directly, and he will know the truth immediately as to how the country is responding to the disease. Why wait to hear from his juniors, who will have their own selfish agendas and may not tell him the whole truth? Is it because he is hiding himself away in Blantyre and refusing to leave there, while cabinet ministers et al are based in Lilongwe?
Banda it becomes extremely difficult to keep up speed with crises arising from all directions at an advanced age like that of the President. Too much pressure could easily result in cardiac arrest. So let him just receive reports from the ‘Task Force’ which I hope will not be tempted to tell him lies in exchange for hefty allowances at the expense of lives that could be saved if more money was channeled to procure things like masks for everyone.
CONFUSED.COM THEY ARE!!!!
The headless chicken has finally listened to sound advice to include other stakeholders in the country’s covid19 response!
People had argued that we need to be inclusive in dealing with national issues
Nde akuti wauka kwa akufa mkuluyu 😄🙂😪
Wakwithu – dziwa kuti wakufa sadziwika – just know that there is God in heaven he is watching over you better you seal up your stinking mouth.
Stupid what this mafia did through MEC n Jane ansah is killing malawians.. I have no apologies to make to anyone
Do you know what we could do with the billions of kwachas we have lost through 21 may 2019 elections and Concourt case and demos as a country?
Thank God he is all merciful that’s why he is still keeping this headless chicken
At least some sense Mr President, you win public trust by listening to others if they talk wisdom, I guess there was much wisdom in Chilima’s speech. Lets put politics aside and develop our nation.
Thanks for taking the advice though late but please sometimes we need quick decisions. May the Almighty God save malawi. Aameen
Mwadya dollar nde pano mukukhala ngati mwamva.komabe tiyamikile kuti uthenga wa VP munaumvera nokha.tithokoze kwambiri koma musaiwale kuti Inu si court mwangokhala mumodzi mwa anthu omwe anazama ndi malamulo otherwise restriction of movement muitenge bwino chifukwa tonse tagwilizana zokavota Kaya tivotera Inu or not koma Kubota kulipo
Government already said they were working on a package. Lunatic Chilima just tried to show as if he is clever by talking about something government was working on already
VP wakhe ndani??? Chilima??? aaaahhhhh this guy ndi chitsiru chachikulu kwambiri
Foseki
Chitsilu ndiwe APM took advice from a Chilima and started to make shit noise Zoyalhula zake osamveka ngati yamuluma Njuchi
Two people to thank here; the Ppresident for listening to the advice and the vice president for giving the advice. That’s the way to go. Mgeme Kalirani and Botomani, learn to be truthful. The president did not dismiss what his vice proposed. What you told the people as the response to Chilima’s proposals was from your wives and not the president.Thd president listens to advice and you don’t want him to. Shame! Next time just keep quiet.
Government was working on these plans. Pumbwa Chilima just spoke on what government was doing already.
Don’t include Chilima,,, he is more than rubbish
Thats what Chilima has been advocating for, by your boys were insulting Him even this Cadet called Mgeme or mleme what so ever said now you have managed to swallow the bitter pill, hope Chilima should be coming now and again, don’t sleep on the job gogo
Excellent move My President
Peter does not act ignorantly,he is gentle and scruitinizes before actions.Osati kupanga zinthu zoti siungakwanitse mchimbuli ndi KUPUPULUMA ngati Chilima.
I thought the government through Mgeme said Chilima had “empty message”? Now the same government brings out the Presidential Taskforce with inclusion of opposition and other stakeholders. Now tell me, after doing exactly what Chilima said, who should we trust? I’m sorry but this government puts the country to shame…
Yes. Chilima has empty message because government was working on the things he was saying. Government was working on package already
Ngati pali Mbuzi yimene siyiganiza,, nde ndi Chilimatu ,, Mbuzi yeni yeni
Thank you Vice President Chilima for bringing so much to the attention of the President during your live speech on Sunday.
Not sure when the President’s speech was taped and recorded as at 9 minutes 35 seconds of the video the President says the matter of the lockdown was before the court.
Yet the ruling was 12 hours before not sure what to make of that.
Good that the President is bringing forth new ideas and including others in the Presidential task force and assisting 127,000 main market families for 6 months,
Chilima is a loud mouth. He was reacting to government talking to Lowe.
Satana wapondedwa apa. Lowe should have declined if we are to go by the impudence of his party president calling APM as acting president while he calls Chilima as vice president not acting vice president. MCP needs sober minds like Lowe not Nkaka and this fallen reverend.
Peter is sounding like he is about to die. His speach sounds like he has been paralyzed. I think its time for him to retire, NOW.
This is a very good development Mr. President. Congrats to all stake holders who have accepted to be part of this task force. Thanks for putting the lives of Malawians first. This is no time for politics. Put political differences aside. Its time to unite and come together as one in this difficult fight against Corona Virus. True to what the president said “Corona is Real. Judge Kenyatta and Company who dont believe Corona exists should be lnstitutionalized in Zomba”. The Country is better without them. Stay home, stay safe people.
As for Saulo, learn to humble urself Brother. Be nice and respectful to ur Elders. Don’t make unnecesarly noise. Otherwise u have a great future in politics. Don’t force things. Learn to wait on the Lord. His time is best.
Chibwafu NTCHONA back from quarantine?
Igweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Peter Mutharika waking up from his deep slumber. Dzimagona Chilima wadzidzutsa!
The problem was you and DPP coronavirus committee, kumvera kumaposa nsembe yophyereza.Accept when you have made a mistake, correcting it is a welcome move.Becareful with advisors who always think that the opposition are the problem.Sometimes you create these problems yourself and you blame the opposition. Learn to be honest and reliable in difficult times.
This is what Chilima was saying. Then someone says, there was nothing in Chilima speech. Cadets you must learn to listen. Most of you haven’t been to schl.
kodi inu,,,,, Chilima ali ndi zeruso??? Mbuzi yeni yeni
Well, so why was state house hurling insults at Chilima for advising an inclusive approach? Isnt it what APM has just tried to implement today? Kapena you were shamed by leakage of huge allowances being pocketed by cabinet from covid 19 funds?
Because he was rattled about government working with opposition and tried to show as if he was giving ideas. Akuchepera Chilima. Lowe ndi uyu akugwira ntchito ndi a pulezidenti Mutharika.
Kudos to Chilima, the man has listened to you and came out of his cocoon to do exactly what you suggested to him. You are my man SKC.
Chilima mpwererere. He knew government was talking to opposition and other stakeholders. He decided to make a speech. Wagwa nayo.
Finally our president is going to the right direction he has shown a leadership. But Mr President ask those covid-19 ministerial criminals to pay back the K450 000 that they have been stealing
Well done mr president. Leadership is seen in crisis and you have demonstrated it. You are calm, composed and focused.
Well dome APM. What you have done is presidential and it will save Malawian lives.
Chilima and Chakwera m’pwererererere!
So opposition Leader Is in Covid Committee. Chilima uti bwa?
Shame on those who were spreading false death rumours. APM has shown HE is the president.
Tikudziwa kuti Civil Society muikamo a Chonzi ndi anzao ngati a Voice Mhone.
At least the risen Mutharika has listened to include others in the fight against COVID 19. That is the power of resurrection
So you listen to advice sometimes after all? Very interesting. If only you had done so much earlier; some of the rot would have been avoided.
All the best!
This is the way to go Mr President, though late
Long at last sense has been pumped into him. Too slow! Too slow! to act.
zikomo pokumvera zonena za Chilima. But do more to mitigate the suffering of the poor
Bolero, you are so pathetic. Your Chilima has nothing to contribute to it. The president has been having meetings with different leaders and he has eyes and ears to see and hear how things are going on the ground. So many meetings has taken place hence the president was quite while you were publishing bad news about the president. He is the man leading the country , he can change things.
Which Chilima. The president has been discussing this with other people. There is no Chilima contribution here.
Since bible times the poor have existed.
chonena chasowa ana anjoka
truly, truly I say to you Chilima is a visionary leader
