Mutharika’s ‘I am not Malawian’ remark generate mixed views on social media circles
President Peter Mutharika’s purported remark that he is not Malawian has generated mixed views in social media platforms, with others saying the Head of State has been misquoted.
At his first political rally in Lilongwe since he won the presidency for the second and mandatory final five-year ter, in the highly contentious and disputed May 21 elections, Mutharika said he is not Malawi therefore people should not be destroying public infrastructure thinking they are punishing him.
“Ine si Malawi, dziko ili ndilathu, tikamaononga sikuti mukuononga ine koma dziko lanu, dziko lathu,” said Mutharika in vernacular loosely meaning he is not Malawi therefore people should know that they are destroying their own country when they destroy the public infrastructure.
However, some people have interpreted the same statement as meaning that the President said he is not Malawian and would not mind the destruction of public infrastructure going on in the country.
Apprently, in English the President said: ‘I am not Malawian.’
Taking to social media platforms such as Facebook, some Malawians said Mutharika has the US green card.
“Foo 40myears in America, he might have obtained citizenship,” one pointed out.
Collex Msefula also on Facebook said many Malawians had doubts already that he is not Malawian.
Ufulu Wandale said: “I am not Malawian came out crispy and very clear.”
Mosignor Arnold Mboga said he was surprised that some people twisted what the President had said, saying they deliberately chose to misquote Mutharika.
Malawians of bright senses,know that the useless and guile Mathanyula said that he was not a Malawian full-stop and no other wards.For those who are trying to defend the fool,they are also fools
I was born in Malawi, residing in South Africa, I was proud to be called a Malawian. Due to current situation in Malawi *I’m not a Malawian*! Who destroy his/her country, fractures, economy. Am not a Malawian who abuse and undresses our sisters and mothers, who kills his fellow Malawian and vandalising peoples things as the part of demonstration or protest.
Its only stupid foolish and useless people who are doing these things. Its your rights to demonstrate but not to destroy others rights
How people did not understand what the president meant just shows that people are not thinking clearly. Some educated people are seriously saying the president was saying he is not Malawian, and recording themselves.

Do not speak on his behalf. He meant what he said, the very way you will miss interpret the bible and get mislead. don’t you think he said that to give an impression that we are not punishing him, but our own country? So by saying “….Malawians, you can see how fools you are….” Testifies that you are also not Malawian. So why can’t you mind your own business in your country. your tongue is against you,
But honestly that is clear and straight forward where did he say he’s not malawian? People don’t you have what to talk about? You just proove something but note no matter what he’s your president until zaka five zithe so don’t be a sadist there is nothing you can do stop waisting your time.
