Malawi Police managed to arrest a gang of suspected robbers who shot dead a police officer who was in a minibus of a Petroda Filling Station in Lilongwe and robbed bags containing cash.

Thugs are reported to have ambushed a Petroda minibus  at Chilambula Road after it had just left the filling station to bank millions of Kwacha.

They fatally shot at a police officer before robbing the cash.

Police Public Relations officer, Rhoda Manjolo said Police have launched investigations into murder.

Eye witnesses say the robbers who were using a black sedan without a number plate dumped the vehicle at Chitukuko in Area 15.

On Sunday thugs shot a UDF director of youth Ibrahim Maloni in Area 47 where they went away with cash and other valuables.

Gun crime is on the rise in Malawi.

Meanwhile, Police say armed robbers who killed a police officerand driver of a minibus belonging to Petroda Ltd have been caught.

Its good that Malawian thugs who for long have been best friends with Malawian police officers in terrorising innocent civilians have now turned their guns against the police themselves. This is a welcome development. I sincerely pray that when they are done with the police, the thugs should also turn the guns against their next best friend; lawyers who bail them out after killing innocent people. Until criminals masquerading as police officers or lawyers understand that criminals are bad citizens and do not deserve our protection, we shall be having problems with crime. I feel pity when i see Traffic Police officers receiving spot fines without an armed officer around. At least when conducting their jobs (traffic) one should have any type of a gun especially revolvers. It is high time we change our mind set in police on the fire arms act.
