Vitumbiko Mumba Blasts ‘Job Creation Deniers’: “Stop Insulting Hardworking Malawians”
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) running mate Vitumbiko Mumba has come out swinging against what he calls “job creation deniers” who dismiss self-employment as legitimate work, accusing them of insulting thousands of hardworking Malawians who earn their living through their own businesses.
In a blunt and unapologetic attack, Mumba tore into critics who mock NEEF-funded entrepreneurs, saying their ignorance betrays a dangerous disconnect from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
“Someone gets a loan from NEEF or a bank, buys a motorbike, and operates it as a transportation business. They are earning a living from that. Isn’t that a job?” Mumba fired back. “To dismiss jobs created through successfully implemented NEEF loans is, to say the least, just ridiculous.”
Mumba didn’t stop there—he accused opponents of peddling cheap politics instead of offering real solutions to unemployment.
“Government cannot employ everyone. Its role is to create an environment where industries and small enterprises can flourish. That’s exactly what the Chakwera government has done by increasing funding to NEEF,” he said. “Expecting us to apologize for empowering Malawians is like asking us to apologize for breathing.”
The MCP running mate, who is championing Pillar No. 2 of the party’s manifesto—Job Creation—warned that belittling self-employment not only undermines the economy but also spits in the face of every Malawian hustling to feed their family.
With the September elections drawing near, Mumba’s explosive remarks signal that the MCP will fiercely defend its economic record and is prepared to confront head-on those he says are “rooting for failure rather than celebrating progress.”
