Albino body calls on govt to relocate Goodson sister
Association for People with Albinism in Malawi (Apam) officials have called on authorities to relocate Goodson Makanjira’s sister, a 12-year-old girl who is also a person with albinism.
Apam president Overston Kondowe said this in Dedza when his association with the state funded Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) visited the home of Goodson Makanjira, the 14-year-old who has become the latest person with albinism to be abducted.
Kondowe said the girl was not safe in the village.
“If the government has no money, I will use my own personal money to relocate her for her safety,” said Kondowe.
Kondowe also lashed out at President Peter Mutharika for saying the government has instituted 24 hour patrol in all hot spots where people with albinism live, saying that is not true.
“It is also a blue lie that the government has deployed MDF soldiers to protect the people with albinism. I don’t know why President Peter Mutharika and his ministers are peddling lies on the security of people with albinism,” said Kondowe.
MHRC executive director David Nungu said they went to the village on a fact finding mission.
The villagers talked of six masked men who broke doors of houses of villagers on the pretext that they were from the department of Forestry and were looking for illegal charcoal in the houses.
The villagers said the masked men were armed with panga knives and overwhelmed the community policing team.
They said the search for charcoal searching ended abruptly after they found Goodson whom they abducted, hacking to unconscious Goodson’s who wanted to rescue him.
Will tagging people with albinism with tracker help? It may be an extreme way to go but really why should they die like elephants being poached until extinction? This is not fair reallocating them is not a solution maybe institutionalise all people with albinism in a community compound protected by elite police officers.
Chakwera has a solution to this killing of Albinos yet he is not coming out to advise the government to rescue our friends from the brutal killing. He says we need to vote him into power first then he will end this brutal killing within a short period. If we say he knows something on this, are we wrong? Or if we say he is among the people that are doing this deliberately to dirtying the name of the current president that he is a failure, are we wrong? Bring the solution now so that we can vote for you.… Read more »
Why is our president so jittery about how Chakwera’s intends to end albinos killings? Is it a coincidence these killings have peaked in the runner up to elections?
Who are these people and why the state machinery is even failing to trace this syndicate

Exactly, the Government must know something
Pepani a Kondowe and all people living with albinism, i feel your pain, komano as long as this government is in power, nothing can be done to protect you our brothers and sisters, we better pray for a regime change this year for sure……………. akulu akulu athu amene ali mu boma ndi amene akupha ma albino, so you cant expect them to take a leading role to curb this malpractice, No way, but God is watching!
Mr President, please do something. Anthu awa akumvetsa chisoni. Amene mumakhala pafupi ndi a President chonde, tell him to do something please. Akhale ndi umunthu please
I recommend death by hanging or by firing squad for those people who are guilty of killing or abducting people with albinism. Otherwise soft punishment is not deterring people and I think traditional healers have to be banned for they encourage silly practices.
APAM is right. Government should relocate the girl because she is not safe.
