Top Malawi Entertainment Sectors
One of the most popular entertainment sectors in Malawi is football. Its popularity is even evident with how it is one of the sports that people bet the most on in Malawi. And with so many other types of sports available to bet, from basketball to baseball, on such platforms it is a pretty impressive feat. Even more so when considering that it’s online, meaning there are even international options to bet on.
After football, music is the most beloved industry, and we can’t blame the country for enjoying their music so much. After all, Malawi music is incredibly diverse, thanks to the mix of British, African and American influences. Even with limitations put on Malawi artists between 1964 and 1994 by the government, the industry managed to grow swiftly to become what we know it as today.
Finally, we have the TV industry, which is not surprising as this seems to be a universal love. Most of us, regardless of where we’re from, enjoy sitting down and simply enjoying a good movie or binge-watching the latest season of our favorite TV show. And this is no different in Malawi, even though it is a relatively new sector as the Malawi Congress Party government was against its public adoption in the 90s.
Beloved Malawi Celebrities
We’ll start this list off with the one and only Patrick Mabedi. He is a former defender, and currently the Malawi’s national football team’s manager. He started his football career in 1997, and his coaching one in 2014. This impressive resume has led him to be under the public’s watchful eye.
Next up, we’d like to highlight Leo Siwale, known by his stage name Tsar Leo. He quickly rose to prominence in the country after he was nominated as the Best New Artist in 2015, even though he started his career only a year before. This talented rapper, singer, and songwriter mainly releases music in the Hip Hop and R’n’B genres in English. And if you haven’t heard any of his songs, we would recommend streaming one of his successful singles such as The Other Side.
Last, but not least, we have the incredible Lily Banda, who has been active since 2010. She’s donned many hats, from actress to singer to dancer to poet, it seems that there’s nothing she can’t do. Her talent allowed her to achieve popularity and she even hosted a radio show.
