Livingstonia Synod to construct agriculture college in north Malawi
Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) at the Livingstonia Synod has mooted plans to construct a College of Agriculture to help in the training of more specialists in the subject.
According to the Synod’s General Secretary Reverend Levi Nyondo, the college will be built in the north of the country to plug the gap for trained agriculture experts in Malawi.
“We have many students who would like to join the field of Agriculture but due to limited space in our colleges, they fail to do so,” he lamented on Monday.
Nyondo said the proposed college will be a national institution like other colleges annexed to the University of Malawi (Unima) colleges, adding that its construction which will start soon will be completed in three years.
Malawi has only one College of Agriculture known as the Lilongwe University for Agriculture and Natural Resources under Unima.
Too early for opening up another college another college! Why not improve unilia nd introduce those agricultural programmes at unilia???? Mapanga awiri avumbwitsa ndibwino kumalizitsa kaye zinazi (unilia) which is facin a number of challenges!
its a good idea to construct the university of agriculture but u need to think on the two campuses u have in the north most especially the ekwendeni campu u need to think on improving the two campuses befor u go further u need to improve these two the the other campus should prevail
Livingstonia! Why can’t u first improve Laws campas, Ekwendeni campus, Embangweni TTC b4 generating ideas of bringing anew collage, kuba basi. These guys are after personal achievements
where?
Why not improve Embangweni TTC and Laudon College? Do these two big institutions mean the same school or they are different? If you could improve these colleges then the Gricultural University would create a lo of excitement.
Please do that so that my son attends higher education. But put in your curriculum subject that empowers students to have employers attitude & not employees. Malawi society should move away from primitive mindset of just thinking of getting a job to running a business. How many Bunda students are teaching instead of opening commercial farms since their expertise can be better be used in that area than teaching. You never see a doctor working at garage. Make sure the university produces real scientists who must produce real innovation & not textbook science
The most virile tribalist in the country, he can never achieve, mark my word!
Big brains with good ideas.Nyasa province is developing very fast.
please make sure that the buildings and campus should look at NRC as the ‘minimum’ standards and start from there…….nothing less than NRC will be ideal in terms of infrastructure….another question is what level…certificate, diploma, degree? You need a proper needs assessment not just say to fill the gap in agric experts……all the best….
The government should NOT dilly-dally in accredition and as it has been with University of Livingstonia. Of course the college must meet the standards before the Synod cries foul!
